JIŘÍ ANDERLE 1984, Urvi den, urvi noc, variant with drawing 1/1,
To Mr. and Mrs. Stehlik
Jiří Anderle is one of the most important Czech graphic artists and painters. His
expression comes from technically perfect drawing and admirable mastery of
graphic techniques, especially drypoint. His work was influenced by his experiences
of his childhood in Pavlík, Rakovník, his extensive knowledge of the history of art
of art, literature and music, admiration for the great personalities of world culture
of different epochs. He first made a name for himself internationally with his
graphic art, for which he won important international awards. He is represented by
in a number of national and international collections (National Gallery in Prague, Metropolitan
Museum in New York, Baruch Collection in Chicago, etc.). Only later did he
began to assert himself in painting, in which his expression became even more relaxed. Anderle's
graphic letters and paintings have always had a deep, often socially attuned content
and perfect form.
In his graphic and pictorial work we can trace the development of his ideas in
complex interweaving of shapes, expressing an equally complex philosophical content.
It shows a balance between content and form and a virtuoso combination of
technique with expressive conception.
