Válová Květa 1922–1998
The Feet, 1957
oil, cardboard, passepartout, frame, glass, inside a cut-out 38,5 × 49,5 cm, signed. LD K. Válová 57
Květa Válová and her sister Jitka were one of the most distinctive representatives of the "new figuration". In 1954 they both became members of the well-known creative group Trasa, which included other important artists (Olbram Zoubek, Eva Kmentová, ...). Květa had already in her early period reached massive simplified figures. In her drawings and paintings she drew on the environment of working-class Kladno, where she spent her whole life with her sister. She was able to accurately capture its atmosphere. She expressed herself with clear and understandable symbols. She was still developing the possibilities of figurative work in her robust, at first sight recognisable expression, which differed from Jitka's more delicate and fragile way of expression.
