Frank J. Malina has combined in his life the careers of scientist, rocket engineer,
inventor and distinguished artist who was one of the pioneers
of kineticism, a new postwar artistic trend in Europe and America.
In 1953, Malina, an American with Czech roots, left the scientific
work for UNESCO and devoted himself primarily to his artistic work.
In his work, he combined science and technology with art and managed to
his knowledge of physics and science
principles and technological processes to create plastic luminous
kinetic objects and installations that represented entirely new
new possibilities for artistic creation. He used optical effects, mirrors,
electric light, motors, sound and a range of other innovative materials,
