Viková Jindra (*1946)
Decameron, 1970
stoneware, wooden plinth, overall height 30 cm, signed J. Lničnička. Viková 79,
signed on the plinth
The beginnings of the work of Jindra Viková (*1946) are mainly devoted to
ceramics. She conceives of it in a hitherto unusual way and thus blurs the boundaries
between "gallery" and applied art. However, she did not stay only with ceramics,
her work is very extensive, including photographs, assemblages, wire
sculptures, porcelain. In the work on offer, Playing the Cube II, 1979, Viková masterfully
captured a fleeting moment in the expression of a girl's face. And even though it is
it is a realistic sculpture, it breathes a certain lyricism, lightness
and childlike playfulness. In this work, Jindra Viková captures the legacy of her time
and it is only with the passage of time that its meaning can be fully understood.
The Decameron sculpture is part of the collections of the Art and Industry
Museum in Prague.
