Jindra Viková's early work from the 1970s focuses on work with ceramics, which she studied with Prof. Otto Eckert at the Academy of Arts and Crafts in Prague (1964-1969). The material, traditionally associated with applied art, is shifted by the author to the level of to the realm of free sculpture. Ceramic figurative works, heads or animal motifs treated by painting on glaze, react in a unique way to wave of new figuration in Czech art. At the end of the seventies she created Viková created a series of relief tiles in which she painted the illusion of a deep space. She exhibited them at the Mladá fronta Gallery with paintings by Petra Oriešková, with whom she shared an interest in feline beasts, often depicted in motion with details their anatomy. Since the 1980s, Viková's work has gained a number of of important international awards.
