Inspired by Sandro Botticelli's painting "4 SCENES FROM THE YOUTH OF ST. ZENOBIO", circa 1500 (the painting is on display at the National Gallery London). Petr Kvíčala, Galerie Závodný, Mikulov, 13 April 2017 - 27 May 2017. 2017. The painting entitled Nr. 5 from 2019 belongs to a series of paintings in which Petr Kvíčala deals with the motif of natural crystal and illusory representation paintings towards an object or space. The starting point of this inspiration for the artist were Giacometti's cubic sculptures from the 1930s, but also Josef Šíma's paintings with the crystal motif and his own early work with geometry. The paintings in this series are conceived as brightly coloured geometric structures that create an optical illusion on the surface of the impression of plasticity. The individual segments of the crystals appear convex or concave from the surface of the painting and as a crystalline relief organically grow organically through the entire space of the canvas. A system that applies geometric composition of individual geometrically arranged elements follows the previous works by Petr Kvíčala, who since the 1980s has been developing a distinctive position of abstract geometric painting, the starting point of which is ornament as the main subject of the pictorial message. Elementary geometric shapes and signs, such as the wavy line, circle, line, cross, have been since then have become the artist's main means of expression, capturing archaic experience inspired by folk art through a universal geometric artistic language, the variability of which Kvíčala was able to fully exploited. The rhythm of the elements in the painting, their seriality, structure and development in the surface, Kvíčala applied them primarily in the waveform, which enabled the creation of individual segments, but also a rich network of interlocking and layered lines, which were also applied during the 1990s in large-scale commissions in architecture.
