The passionate painter Vít Soukup was an unmissable personality of the Czech art scene at the turn of the 20th century. He moved mainly in the circle of of the art magazine Divus. At that time, somewhat nonconformistically, recorded the artistic breakthroughs of artists such as Josef Bolf, David Černý, Jiří Černický or the prematurely deceased Ján Mančuška. The works of V. Soukup's work is divided into monothematic cycles, with a weakness for for objects of personal kitsch and for pop-culture icons. Soukup's paintings are an important contribution to the contemporary debate of the medium of painting. He chose his pictorial subjects from comic book stories, from DIY magazines, advertising flyers and ordinary newspapers. His work is published in the monograph Czech Painting of the 1990s Generation 20th century, published by Adam Gallery and Arbor Vitae 2015, which presents a narrow selection of 25 artists.
