Provenance: label Galerie Walter Storms, Munich on the reverse. The motif of the chair has been one of the most important themes since the late 1970s. of the early work of Magdalena Jetelová (born 1946), a Czech artist working from the 1980s onwards on the international art scene. The meaning of the ordinary domestic furnishings was changed by Jetelová by consistently shifting the scale of and exposing oversized sculptures to public space. Robust wooden works, cut roughly with a chainsaw, she created in the city's urban environment of fading socialism and subsequent political transformation unexpected symbols. The chairs were exhibited at important group exhibitions and one of them found a permanent place on the raft at Owl Mills in Prague. Jetelová also portrayed the theme of the chair in her later work, in which from the end of 1980s, she turned to working with new technologies and lasers.
