Jurkovič Samo Dušan 1868–1947

Frame

Bohemia, design by D. S. Jurkovič around 1899, from a series of furniture and home accessories with a typical motif of a dove's tail, originally intended for the Vesna Girls' Boarding House in Brno, stained carved wood, size 97 × 137 cm
D. S. Jurkovič - one of the most significant Czech and Slovak architects of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The representative of Art Nouveau architecture created his own movement, in which he combined Art Nouveau elements with folk architecture. His interior and furniture designs are equally distinctive and extraordinary. D. S. Jurkovič designed the furnishings of the Girls' Boarding House Vesna (the so-called Small and Large) in 1899, and the designs were realised in 1900–1902. The furniture with the motif of a dove's tail is in the collections of the Museum of the Wallachia Region in the Vsetín Castle, the Museum of Art in Olomouc, in the Pustevny area - in the Maměnka building and originally also in the currently reconstructed Libušín building.
