Jiří Šuhájek studied at the Royal College of Art in London (1968- 1970), then at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (1971) in the studio of S. Libensky. His artistic work is divided between free and utilitarian work. At the beginning of 1970s he began to create blown and densely shaped clear objects, coloured, sometimes plated. His monumental figures are very popular all over the world. Series of his works have won prestigious awards, for example the Lighthouse ensemble in 1995 won a national design award. His work is represented in many art collections around the world and includes one of the most important Czech glass artists
