Dub Petr *1976
Right part of the responsibility for air traffic reports (from the Meta cycle left and right of centre), 2016
diptych, acrylic, canvas, wood, 137 × 88 × 22 cm
The painting work of Petr Dub exceeds the limits and boundaries of the commonly understood hanging painting. Dub's paintings-objects explore the properties of the given medium, such as dimension, flatness, installation possibilities, and deliberately redefine, disrupt and deconstruct them. The abstractly conceived canvas serves as a packaging material, a shell concealing an object often made from industrial waste. The main thing in this case does not only take place on the surface of the work, but also inside. The painting has an inner space, a depth.
Petr Dub (*1976) graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Brno in the years 2003-2009, in the painting studios I-III (Petr Kvíčala, Martin Mainer, Petr Veselý), where in 2009 he won the Rector's Prize and the Dean's Prize for his diploma work Unframed, and subsequently continued his doctoral studies in the studio of intermedia under Václav Stratil (2009-2012). Provenance: the diptych comes from the collection of the Foundation for Contemporary Art Prague.
