František Tichý is one of the most important representatives of the Czech avant-garde of the first half of the 20th century. From the early period with great with great enthusiasm, he portrayed the circus environment and the motifs associated with it (Snake man, Clown, Beauty Eater, ...), which he had already known in his early youth he had known in his early youth. He also often returned to the characters from the Italian Commedia dell'arte (Colombina, Harlequin, ...). He devoted himself to the landscape, portraying the unique beauty of Prague and Paris, where he spent several years. He created a series of portraits of great personalities that fascinated him (Paganini) or that he personally he knew (Josef Sudek). He did not neglect still lifes in which he paid attention to the exact composition and at the same time portrayed his motifs freely and naturally. Precise and concise drawing and subtle colouring, he was able to capture the charm and poetry of all his motifs. In addition to his free works, he was also devoted to books (Jakub Arbes, Romaneta, Eduard Bass, Circus Humberto) and magazine illustration (Trn) or caricature. Tichý became one of the most distinctive Czech artists of his time, He soon found his own unmistakable style, in which he built on Seurat's pointillism, was one of the most important artists of our of interwar poetism, and he also came close to neoclassicism. His expression, based on brilliant drawing and a sense of concise abbreviation, was based on his extraordinary technical ability ...and an extraordinary feeling for the human condition.
