Šípek Bořek 1949–2016

Armchair

Bohemia, design B. Šípek in 1999, textile, base metal, height 93 cm
The Chaise longue armchair is a variation of the Filzek armchair listed in the monograph Bořek Šípek, p. 22. The Filzek armchair is listed in the Czech 100 Project - an inventory of the 100 most famous Czech icons over 100 years under number 82. Bořek Šípek, an artist, architect, designer and university teacher, is best known as a creator of glass art objects and design furniture, or as the chief architect of the Prague Castle administration during the period of President Václav Havel, where he worked on the restoration of the castle interiors. Thus he became the only artist who intervened in the architectural and artistic design of the castle interiors after Arch. J. Plečnik. Thanks to his extensive work abroad, he is a recognised figure among the world's leading designers.
