Reflection on the Shadow of the Brown Line by František Kupka, 1995
MGM execution, design by Monogramist JTS, woven tapestry, 182 x 300 cm
Jan T. Strýček in his monumental
tapestry called Reflection on the shadow of a brown line
from 2011 inspired by a painting by František Kupka
Solo of the brown line from 1912–1913, created
that is, almost a hundred years earlier. Ludmila Vachtová,
the author of Kupka's fundamental monograph, she included
image to the chapter Stories of shapes and colors into which
includes other artist 's important oils (Indispensable
white line, Blue,…) from the period when he became one
one of the most important pioneers of abstract painting.
The author of the tapestry naturally focused
for a decisive period in Kupka's development, when his
the work was the most discovering and when it became clear
that it belongs to the most progressive European and therefore
and world painters. At the same time other representatives
abstract art surpassed by wealth
and the diversity of sources of inspiration and complexity
thinking in which he was based on the knowledge of nature
sciences and occultism, from thinking about the relationships between
cosmic bodies and their systems and energies
controlling nature, about the composition composed
of the simplest geometric or variable
organic shapes. Unlike many
he did not follow other abstractists in any fundamental way
to Cubism, but his other starting point became
Central European symbolism and a feeling for the refined
ornament.
