Škoda Vladimír *1942
Circle, 1977
signed SKODA 1977 on the reverse, bronze, 18 × 18 × 2,4 cm
The offered work belongs to the early sculptural realizations
Vladimír Škoda, an artist of Czech origin living in
France, who since the mid-1970s has been working with various
technologically processed metal. In 1977-78
he created several metal reliefs combining the work of
with material and drawing. The small relief Circle from 1977 is
one of these works, which already thematizes a lifelong inspiration
and Skoda's fascination with the cosmos, geometric and mathematical
principles. An important element of the work is also the irregular
surface structure of the metal, which moves the work in the direction of
towards the processual and organic processes of creation and dissolution,
which are part of the cosmic principle. Square and circle
are among the basic geometric shapes that express
the symbolism associated with infinity and order and are part of
many mathematical questions and theories, such as quadrature
the circle. According to the theory of the absolute square, the circle is identical to
to a square which, by the force of gravity, according to the theory
relativity curves in time and space. Since the late 1980s. French sculptor of Czech origin Vladimír Škoda
(born 1942) emigrated to France in August 1968. Here he acquired
scholarship at the Faculty of Philosophy in Grenoble and at the same time
he became a student at the École des Arts Décoratifs. In 1969
he studied des Beaux Arts in Paris. He worked as a professor at
from 1980 to 1994 at the École d'Art in Le Havre and the École
d'Art in Marseille and from 1994-2007 at the École Nationale
Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Strasbourg. His work
is represented in major institutional collections,
such as the Centre Pompidou and the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris,
Gemaeldegalerie in Dresden and the National Gallery in Prague.
